David is a warm, empathic therapist who is dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of his clients.

He is in the final year of his doctoral training as a counselling psychologist. He began his psychological training in 2006 and started training in counselling and psychotherapy in 2014 while working for a mental health charity. David has 6 years’ experience working within various settings including community mental health, pain management, mental health rehabilitation, child psychotherapy, and secondary care mental health services. Through working with diverse clients, in the NHS and charity sector, he has developed his specialisms in relationship difficulties and mood problems.

David has a PGCert in Counselling Psychology, MSc in Psychological Research Methods and BSc in Psychology. He draws on evidence-based practice while integrating person-centred, cognitive-behavioural, and psychodynamic approaches. He also integrates into his approach acceptance and commitment therapy, systemic approaches, dialectical behavioural therapy and mentalisation based treatment. By working pluralistically within a humanistic framework, David adapts his approach to suit the needs of his clients and encourage their development.

David is dedicated to the mental health and personal development of his clients. He is a thoughtful and responsive therapist who sees the human side of the people with whom he works. He is also adept at humanising and helping clients with diagnoses; he has experience with relationship challenges, mood problems, depression, anxiety, attachment problems, addiction, trauma, PTSD, OCD (obsessions and compulsions), self-harm, bereavement, anger issues, eating disorders, “personality disorders” and panic problems.

David provides a calm supportive space for individuals to explore and make sense of personal problems. As a member of the British Psychological Society and their division of Counselling Psychology he abides by their principles for ethical practice. He is also an individual member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

David provides one-to-one and group training. He recently provided a four day training course for trainee counsellor on working therapeutically with young people. David is also an accomplished musician and song writer who enjoys a wide range of music.
