Counselling Psychologist
Specialising in addiction and dual diagnosis including anxiety, mood and personality disorders
Since beginning his training as an addiction counsellor at a private rehabilitation centre in 2006, Ryan has accumulated over 17 years of experience. His expertise spans various settings, including private rehabilitation centres, prison services, charities, and NHS community services. Notably, he has worked in specialist addiction services and community mental health teams (CMHT).

Ryan holds a BA in Psychological Counselling, a PgDip in Occupational Psychology, and a combined MSc and DPsych in Counselling Psychology. He has completed additional training in Solution-Focused Therapy through Brief Training, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, which includes Mindfulness through British Isles DBT Training, Motivational Interviewing, and Yalom's Model of Interpersonal Group Psychotherapy. This latter model is particularly applied in treating addictions and was delivered through Bath University.

Ryan is dedicated to assisting people in processing and comprehending a range of emotional and psychological challenges that may be causing them distress. His expertise includes working with addiction, anger management, anxiety, grief, bipolar disorder, depression, personality disorders, obsessive-compulsive behaviours, self-harm, and his practice is trauma-informed.

He employs an integrative approach, utilising evidence-based interventions from both humanistic and phenomenological paradigms. This includes the person-centred approach, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), compassion-focused therapy (CFT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and mindfulness.

He is a chartered member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a member of the Division of Counselling Psychology (DoCP). Additionally, he is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). As a certified psychometrist, he is adept at occupational ability and personality assessments, employing the 15-Factor Questionnaire Plus.
 

Ryan lives in Hertfordshire with his wife and has two boys. He is an avid golfer and fly fisherman.
